Just Back: Panama
Can you keep a secret?
By Stacy Hampton
If you are looking for an easily accessible alternative to overcrowded warm-weather destinations, TS attests that the perfect balance of adventure, wellness, and relaxation exists in Panama.
First, we visited Isla Palenque Resort, a private Pacific Island that allows you to completely disconnect and get away from everyday life. Unwind on a tidal beach sprinkled with sand dollars, hike in lush rainforest alongside cheeky howler monkeys and sluggish sloths, and spot humpback whales and dolphins playing in the surf.
Next, we stayed at Isla Secas Private Island, which is also located on the Pacific Coast. This former fishing hub is now a secluded property dripping with luxury. Dine on gourmet gastronomy featuring local ingredients such as the heart of palm, plantains, and mahi-mahi, and relish the expansive wine selection. Explore nearby atolls of the archipelago by diving, sailing, and for the thrill-seekers—electronic hydrofoil surfing. Or, simply enjoy exclusive use of the white-sand beaches adorned with sculptured driftwood. End your days with a massage, yoga in the hummingbird garden, or with a tamarind margarita by your private plunge pool.
En route to the Caribbean side of Panama, we stopped in Boquete—the epitome of adventure ecotourism. We recommend combining your beach stay with time in the mountains to zipline, white-water raft, or visit ancient ruins and expansive coffee plantations.
Our final stop: Nayara Bocas Bali, a Balinese-inspired property that fulfills our overwater villa desires without a lengthy flight! Their private decks offer direct access to swim or snorkel above reefs teeming with colorful fish, giant starfish, spiky sea urchins, and vibrant corals. Discover the labyrinths of mangroves, secret coves, and islands by private boat.
