Inspiration: Tunisia

Tunisia is a fusion of exotic Arab and Berber cultures. It is a recipe of equal parts golden dunes, turquoise sea, and ancient artifacts: A northern African destination that belongs on a "must-see" list.

Stop for a mint tea served with pine nuts in cosmopolitan Tunis, the capital city, before strolling through the maze of its iconic medina. Souks tout complex spices, glazed pottery, and glittering mosaics, as well as hundreds of monuments including tiled fountains, statuesque mosques, and mausoleums.

On the city outskirts, step back in time at the archeological site of Carthage, and Roman ruins such as El Jem, a third-century amphitheater that once hosted 35,000 spectators. The Sahara hides oases within windswept sand dunes. Tozeur is a town peppered with tall date palm trees and boasts kilns and brick buildings made famous by Star Wars.

Conjure Mediterranean vibes as you relax in Sidi Bou Saïd the coastal “blue city” where brightly-colored doors and shutters contrast with whitewashed buildings and sandy beaches. For thrill-seekers, the world-renowned surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing will prove epic.
